American Guest Round 1

My UGA and travel buddy Jesset came and visited for the past week! It was great to see her and even greater seeing her culture shock :) She was a trooper though.

Jesset: "Um, Amy...there's a big pig in the middle of the road.."

Amy: "Oh yea, I didn't notice."

Getting from the airport to my site was the most challenging, lugging the rolling suitcase on our dirt road up the mountain to my house. And as luck would have it, a cow stepped on the water line and broke it the first day! She experienced a day in a Georgian school and was amazed at the expertise of my students (not their English but their cheating methods). She used the outhouses like a champ, withstood the lack of bathing for almost a week and endured the horrible stomach pains she received from something she ate. We hung out in Batumi and my village, traveled to Gori to go to the cave city of Uplitsikhe (there are pictures of this earlier on in my blog) hiked up the fortress in the center of Gori, walked around Old Tbilisi and hiked up to Mother Georgia and the fortress that overlooks the city, ate at the Georgian McDonalds, and finally took the night train back where neither of us slept because we were literally dripping sweat the whole time it was so incredibly hot. I'm so glad and grateful that she made the trip from France (where she works and lives) after spending a week in Istanbul; we had a wonderful time! Also, I now have some experience as a tour guide to prepare for my parent's visit!
