Chiatura

Participated in Teacher Training this weekend in a mining town called Chiatura. My friend lives on the side of the mountain and her commute to work everyday is on a gondola. The town used to have around 40,000 people but now is down to 5-8 thousand; its one of the poorest in georgia with around 90% unemployment. Riding the gondola (made in the 60's) was fun though...especially comforting when floating over the graveyard..
